Overview of Granting Guidelines

We appreciate your interest in applying for a grant from the Brico Fund.  We ask you to review these Grant Application Procedures carefully.

The application process begins with a preliminary application and accompanying two-page letter of intent.  We require letters of intent from all organizations seeking grants, including former grantees and current grantees seeking renewal.  To learn more about the kinds of grants we have made recently, please visit the List of Grants awarded.  This list will also provide you with a useful gauge in determining an appropriate request to the Brico Fund.

Please do not send additional materials, videos or publications as they will neither be reviewed nor returned.  We are tree conscious and consider brevity an indicator of clarity.  We typically visit organizations new to us and can pick up supplemental materials then, if necessary.

Preliminary Application Process

Applicants should complete the Brico Fund’s preliminary application form and a two-page letter of intent, describing the organization’s intended project or program.  If the Brico Fund decides the project/program is strongly positioned within Brico’s current funding priorities the applicant will be invited to submit a formal proposal.

Sending a letter of intent is required, even for renewal funding.  It is our experience that the letter of intent process makes the best use of grant seekers' time and resources.

The preliminary application and letter of intent may be submitted at any time and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.  Favorable applications will be added to the next funding cycle which happens twice a year, spring and fall.  We encourage you to submit before our deadline to help us examine your application thoughtfully and thoroughly.

The accompanying two-page letter of intent should:

  • Identify the system causing the problem and how/why your approach will make a change.

  • Provide a summary of the project/program.

  • Define what type of funding you are requesting.

Include a copy of your IRS designation letter with your letter of intent and application form. We are required to verify 501(C)(3) status annually, so please submit this document even if you have done so previously.

After reviewing your application, you will be notified in writing of the Brico Fund’s interest in receiving more information. Those applicants being considered for further review will be asked to submit a full proposal.
