Grant Making Priorities

Women and Girls

The Women and Girls grant making program focuses in two specific program areas: girls out-of-school time programming, and reproductive rights, justice and health. We believe these are two core funding areas are strategic investments that make progress toward securing the full participation in society for women and girls.

Reproductive Rights, Justice and Health

The Brico Fund’s interest in reproductive rights, justice and health revolves around our continued belief that advocacy to impact public policy is the most strategic way to ensure that women’s health care is as important as men’s and that women have access to the full complement of health care services.

Our grant making strategy in the area of reproductive rights, justice and health tends to center around community organizing and advocacy.  This reflects our value of active community leadership and the importance of individuals taking leadership to drive policy change.

Girls Out-of-School Time Programming

Too often, out-of-school time activities for girls doesn’t meet their emotional, developmental, academic, health or social needs.  Nor do girls have opportunities to design and engage in projects through which they can learn self-advocacy.  These programmatic disparities appear to be compounded by racism and economic differences as well as out-of-school time infrastructure that has been built and sustained around facilities-based programming and the perceived needs and interests of boys.

Currently, funding in this category is very limited; The Brico Fund is engaged in a multi-year strategy with selected organizations.
