Guiding Values

The Brico Fund accomplishes its mission by supporting organizations whose work dynamically and sustainably addresses the following values.

  1. Transformation The Brico Fund seeks to effect systemic change - getting at root causes of problems - by emphasizing innovation, best practices, strategic risk, and systemic change.
  2. Leadership The Brico Fund believes that strong leaders - formal and informal, across all levels of organizations - including Boards of Directors - and within the community - are key imperatives of change. To ensure continued, effective leadership, the next generation of leaders must be fostered.
  3. Impact The Brico Fund strives to go beyond funding good program work and, instead, seeks opportunities to fund efforts that catalyze and create systemic change. Systemic change is measurable, both qualitatively and quantitatively, through effective oversight and evaluation. Accountability to collaborative partners and the community is part of the impact The Brico Fund measures as is a sustainable funding base and logical plans for sustaining the work.
  4. Community The Brico Fund believes in the importance of community and that no one organization or sector is successful in a vacuum. To that end, The Brico Fund supports effective partnerships and collaborations between mutually responsible community partners designed to capitalize on the strengths of each. Organizations that are honest brokers, transparent in their intent and sincere in their exchanges with other organizations help build a strong sector.
  5. Interconnectedness The Brico Fund aspires to support mutual responsibility and productive relationships between leaders, communities, program areas and issue clusters. Organizations that seek feedback from their constituents, partner organizations and the community, and evolve as a result of that feedback, create an active synergy that continually strengthens the field.

The Brico Fund is interested in strengthening capacity and building organizational leadership that increases coordination and integration of advocacy, policy, and communications efforts to create systemic change. We understand that organizations we support may not (and should not) address all of these program areas. However, we seek to understand the intersections among organizations and issues.
